1970's Cathay Pacific Ad

Cathay Pacific Banned Ad

In the 1970's Cathay Pacific wanted to show that the air stewardess they had are from all over the world. The art director at that time had various women wear their traditional costume for the Ad. When the photograph was printed out, he wanted them to be facing in a different direction so he flipped the photo around. Amongst these women was from Japan.

When the art director flipped the photo around he did not consider the traditional costume of the Japanese women. She was wearing her kimono. Wearing the kimono the right way is by having the left side over the right. However when the photo was flipped it showed that the right side was over the left, this is only done when dressing the dead.
