An article about ramadan video

Besides the previous advertisements, we also found another inappropriate advertisement which is published in the TV and told about one celebration.

It is an article to represent that the video commercial is not a good advertisement to be published in Malaysia because this country has many cultures.

Here is the link from malaysia yahoo news! itself

The video was found by Rui:

We decided to choose this advertisement that was aired on 8TV in 2011. This advertisement shows a non-muslim being disrespectful during the fasting month of Ramadan and the ways to respect the Muslim when they are fasting. The purpose of this advertisement was actually to advise the viewers not to "get carried away" and asked them to respect the significant of Ramadan and respect the holy month.

However, the advertisements were criticized publicly as it was claimed to be racist and inappropriate. This is because they stereotyping the Chinese as loud, obnoxious and insensitive. They are also criticized for depicting Islam as an intolerant religion.

1970's Cathay Pacific Ad

Cathay Pacific Banned Ad

In the 1970's Cathay Pacific wanted to show that the air stewardess they had are from all over the world. The art director at that time had various women wear their traditional costume for the Ad. When the photograph was printed out, he wanted them to be facing in a different direction so he flipped the photo around. Amongst these women was from Japan.

When the art director flipped the photo around he did not consider the traditional costume of the Japanese women. She was wearing her kimono. Wearing the kimono the right way is by having the left side over the right. However when the photo was flipped it showed that the right side was over the left, this is only done when dressing the dead.

the perfume ads

The ads I found is about perfume brand ads called tomford. It is dedicated for men but the model is girl, quite does not make sense and the act is not appropriate with Souteast Asia culture including Malaysia, but they still put their ads in selling their products. For example is Philipine.

Here is the link of the website which is sell that perfume in Philipine :

And this one is in Malaysia.

They also show the picture which is not relevant with the country's culture itself.
